Storm Preparation, done the way it should be

Almost everything we cut out of a roof was visible from the ground beforehand. Deadwood, a cracked union, a limb with too much weight on the end. Preventive work is cheaper than emergency work and a lot less disruptive.

Nobody sells storm prep because it isn't dramatic and it doesn't get the big invoice. But the limb that comes through the roof at 2am is almost always one that was already dead in June. We'd rather take it out in June.

When should I do storm prep?

Late winter is ideal because the structure is visible, but any time before severe season beats any time after it.

Does trimming actually prevent storm damage?

It reduces it. Removing deadwood and reducing end weight takes out the pieces most likely to break. No pruning makes a tree stormproof, and anyone who says otherwise is selling.

Is it cheaper than emergency work?

Almost always, because it's scheduled, planned, and there's no roof to work around.

What about the trees near my power line?

The utility handles the line clearance on their side. What's on your property and near your service drop is yours, and we can help with it.
